What Good Entrepreneurs Won’t Do

by Sumit Balan

I’m often amused by the number of aspiring entrepreneurs that mushroom every other day. Anyone with an idea, a laptop and a blog, calls himself an Entrepreneur. Well, calling oneself a CEO doesn’t make you one and a small army of twitter followers doesn’t make you a leader either.

Don’t want to dash your hopes and dreams; but harsh as it sounds, the bitter truth is, a vast majority of the so called ‘entrepreneurs’ simply lack the maturity to be entrepreneurs or leaders in the true sense of the word. Believe me, the sooner you realize you’re not going to be the next Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerberg, the better!

Please don’t get me wrong here – it’s fantastic to aim for the stars. I too have experienced that euphoria during my entrepreneurial journey, but there are also a few lessons learnt from my experiences. In my opinion, there are certain traits that set apart leaders from the rest, and strange as it may sound, what makes them unique is sometimes not what they Do – rather it’s what they Don’t Do. Yes, you heard me right!!

Not for money but for passion

True entrepreneurs just do it for passion not to be billionaires; because they’re passionate about what they do and they stay focused like a laser beam. Money eventually comes and sometimes comes big time!

Not achieving a perfect work life balance

Another harsh truth – most successful entrepreneurs are workaholics. What that means is their work comes first. It’s what they live for. They’re not freewheeling people who work only for the luxuries it offers. They live to do what they love, and that’s work.

They seldom possess inflated egos

Good entrepreneurs rarely come with big egos. They never think of themselves as superior to others. They never self project and small achievements never get to their heads. They only think about their ideas and how to turn them into great products and services- eventually that’s what make them deliver!

They never fear failure

As Sabir Bhatia said “The greatest risk is not to take one at all “.They don’t let their fears stop them from taking risks. However, they also listen to the voice of reason and their instincts, before taking calculated risks.

 Conclusion

Just like everyone who has a story to tell, can’t be a good writer, everyone with an idea can’t be a good entrepreneur. Right attitude, hard work, passion, persistence and courage are the attributes a good entrepreneur requires to be successful.
